That was what I used to hear on the radio’s traffic report every day as I sat in the said traffic jam. In the mornings, it would be “The traffic is jammed from Subang heading into KL due to an accident on the Federal Highway” or “The traffic is at its usual crawl from Subang heading into KL”
Then in the evenings, it would be the opposite - “The traffic is at a crawl at PJ Hilton into Subang…”
For 6 years I did the Subang-KL jig… or rather slow waltz. I’d spend up to an hour at times just getting into work, and another hour getting home. Getting to work by 9am involved getting up and out of the house BEFORE 7am. Getting home by 8pm was a luxury and unheard of.
So, I’m very very happy that I made the move to finally stay in the city, where my office is 10 minutes away by car and there is hardly any traffic to work, and at most, it takes me 20 minutes to get home - even at the worst of times it would take me about 30 minutes. A far cry from the days when I’d monitor the traffic reports diligently to see if I’d get home for dinner or get something to eat outside.
This was brought back to me today as I was speeding home in the evening. On the radio, the traffic report was all about jams everywhere, and I was home in 15 minutes. I can’t help but chuckle - I’m allowed to gloat right? Sorry la those who are doing the Subang-KL thing. I’ve been there, done that, and will never do it again!
