Today’s headlines in The Star newspaper screamed “He Fooled Them All!”
He ran a firm as a lawyer, went to court like a lawyer, buddied with his learned friends like a lawyer, addressed the Courts like a lawyer, but apparently, failed to DRESS like a lawyer.
That was how he was caught - wearing a normal shirt instead of a wing-tip collared shirt with a bib at the High Court. For general information,
This is a shirt with a normal collar usually worn with a tie
This is a shirt with a wing-tip collar usually worn with a bow-tie
Wing tip collared shirts are usually worn with tuxedos if pleated and worn by waiters in fancy restaurants if plain. If you don’t believe me, just go to any fancy restaurant and you’ll see the maitre’d wearing a plain wing-tip collar shirt. Not fun for lawyers to be mistaken for waiters eh? Especially in their sombre black suits.
So, lawyers will wear their wing-tip collar shirts with a bib (thereby completing the food/restaurant connection) and our bogus lawyer failed to notice that. Isn’t it odd that he went to court so often, mentioned cases for his colleagues, even went to the Shah Alam High Court, but failed to notice that you must wear a wing-tip collar shirt when wearing a bib?
Methinks there is more to it than that. The psychology of conmen is such that when they get too comfortable in their role, they start feeling the need to be found out. Otherwise, where is the thrill of fooling anyone? The fact that he was caught out twice before underscores this theory that he was just waiting to be found out.
I’m absolutely fascinated at the idea that he was caught out simply because of his dress. I must ask some male lawyers (Pablo for instance) if they actually notice how other lawyers dress. It is a point of fact that men do not generally notice much about another’s dressing. Or was it a female lawyer who blew the whistle on this chap?
Either way, his cover was blown all because he did not dress his part. Now you see how important it is to keep abreast of fashion? LOL…

Ehem! Firstly hor…the dressing of this site is a bit wrong. Your google adsense has covered part of the contents of this post! LOL!
Ahem…seriously, I cringe whenever I see some lawyers who could not be bothered to dress appropriately for Court. Some come with brown shoes (which are prohibited) and some come with obvious coloured shirts. Can’t they just get another white shirt??? I mean, these are some of the more “seasoned” lawyers I am talking about! I don’t think I am too judgmental in this respect as these guys regularly do not wear white shirts! Perhaps, once in a blue moon, the white shirt could not be dried in time due to the rainy season but I still make it a point to ensure that I always have enough white shirts for court duties.
As for women, some of them wear shoes which expose their heels (which are big no-nos for court attire). If I were the judge, I would politely ask them to see me in chambers and advise them to get a pair of court shoes!
Pablo: I think I got the site sorted. And I’d have thought most lawyers would make sure their wardrobe is predominantly black and white just to cater for those rainy days! Some people just don’t bother I guess. And if you were the judge, would you ask the lady lawyers to see you in chambers just to talk about shoes?! LOL
Bogus lawyers. Hahaha, did you see the boguslink parody? On my k-kia’s blog at http:cedricang.com?
Well…I would also talk to them about what’s cooking in the kitchen
LOL!
