Last year was a travelling year for me. It must have been in my stars that 2006 was to be “Paris travels the world on a budget airline” year for AirAsia had their free ticket giveaway promo thing in December 2005 and I had crazily booked myself on many many trips for the hell of it.
So, on a whim and a prayer, I went off to Kuching, Macau and Bangkok. Phuket was also on the cards but I opted out in the end. Kuching was not too bad a trip. The flight there was delayed about an hour but still bearable. Macau was again not too bad a trip. There was a 2 hour flight delay coming back, but again, bearable.
Bangkok was the worst! The flight delay coming back was 5 hours! We were not informed of the delay and had checked in our baggage and all. Then, we were told there was a delay. Then, we were told the plane was here and we were ready to go. And then, at the gate, we were told that there was a delay. All in all, we were left aimlessly staring at the pale green walls at the departure gates of Bangkok International Airport for over 2 hours with no food, no water and bored silly.
When we came back, we swore “Never again!”
So, late last year when Airasia had some free tickets, we remembered our horrible 5 hours at Bangkok airport and shuddered and said “Never again!”
However, memories are short. Airasia is running a promotion with free tickets again starting tomorrow. This time, instead of shuddering and saying “Never Again!” Dad said, “Why don’t we take a short weekend trip to Bangkok?” ON AIRASIA?! AGAIN?! 5 HOURS! 5 HOURS!!
Damn… never say never.
Good luck to all of you who plan to book free tickets. Hope you get the dates you want!
p/s That picture above is one I took in the plane to Kuching. That little bugger flew with me all the way to Kuching from LCCT!

Oh, I missed being on top!!! The feeling is good… *sigh*
Never Say Never Again ~ Great Sean Connery Bond movie, a bit flat, but still great. Great flat movie… I’m going off in a tangent again…
I have to try AirAsia.. I hear the uniforms are ‘cute’..
I just received an email from SIL informing of the AirAsia Free 500,000 tickets thingy starting midnight tonight. I choose to go to snoozeland
the few times I flew AirAsia, I never had delay problems that bad wor. at the most, errrr… what, 10 minutes? maybe it’s the timing and lots of luck to get good and on-time flights with them!
Got the same email on the 500,000 tix…can understand your frustration with the delays, cos my flight back from Bangkok last year was delayed about an hour (not as bad as yours, but still…)
I must be a glutton for punishment, cos I booked tickets to Bangkok in July on AirAsia…AGAIN…sadly, the kiasu-ism won out…beggars can’t be choosers, no? *shrugs*
My worst AirAsia experience was a frigging 8-hour delay from KL to Penang. I made the biggest mistake of actually STAYING at the bloody LCCT for 8 hours, when I should have just left for KLIA on a taxi, and booked a MAS flight instead. Both cost me the same
It was a good thing a friend was with me, or else I would have seriously rotted at the terminal.
Never again? I wouldn’t say that. Like Beetrice said, beggars can’t be choosers *grumble*
Sorry…didn’t read the fine print so we won’t be subjected to Air Asia again! :p
My worst experience was 3 hours delay flight to BKK at d LCCT. Swearing and fuming was d order of the day. Whenever those free tix appear, all is forgotten. Again.
LB: LOL!! Ya I was wondering when you’d be on top again
The uniforms are something to look at, I must admit. As well as the often scary makeup and maggi-mee hair that seems prevalent among the women staff
Giddy Tiger: That’s the best thing to do really! I must admit its a good deal though, but this time I hear its travel in Oct so thats a bit too far for me to consider
May: Yes yes… before getting on the plane, must do some offerings, pray to various gods and then promise to sacrifice your first born. Then you can be pretty assured of a timely flight. I didn’t have too many bad experiences with them till that Bangkok trip actually.
Beetrice: Heh… true la. They are cheap and Bangkok is a short flight. Makes sense to fly AA. I hope your July trip goes smoothly!
Tine: Wahlaueh! 8 hours is nuts! I’d have demanded some form of compensation or at least some food and water.
Pinkelle: Thank goodness!
I wasn’t looking forward to it.
Tummy: Funny how all these delays mentioned here relate to Bangkok eh? Wonder why. Jinxed? But as you say, free tickets are hard to close an eye to - darnnit!
I flew AA to Bkk last year on the day before it was transferred to LCCT! When I came back LCCT was chaos.
I think its the nature of low cost carrier terminals that creates delays. I flew that cheapie one from London to Geneva some years ago, there was a 4 hour delay.
I guess even with a fly brain you can appreciate a discount. keke Hope he did not share your soup. Course that could get you a free meal or flight?
