Wakeup call to reality

money trap

This is what my money looks like now. Trapped.

Its been like this ever since Paypal updated their database and came up with this inane idea that Malaysians (yes, that’s me) have a USA Bank account and should add it before we can receive funds.

Strange isn’t it? What’s it with all these Americans who think they own the world? No offence intended to the nice ones who read this site. I’m just pretty offended that Paypal would think that a Malaysian would have a USA Bank account and thus be able to add the bank account information as requested, BUT Paypal will not recognise a Malaysian bank account. Irony yes?

Our closest neighbours, Singapore and Thailand can take money out of their Paypal accounts. We, sandwiched in between the 2 countries, can only watch enviously and think up devious ways to get our hard earned money out. Usually, without any success and which involves paying money one way or another.

Paypal has said it MAYBE a glitch in the system. For everyone who blogged for money in the last month, I’m praying it is so. Heaven knows I have some virtual pay due to come in too.

All that said however, to look on the bright side, I’ll take it as a wake up call. You see, there is no such thing as a free lunch. Oh yes, people will say “Come come, I buy you lunch!” But how many people mean “Come come, I buy you lunch with no strings attached! I won’t try to conduct business over lunch and I won’t try to sell you insurance.”

When I was doing paid posts, I saw it as “free money”. I got money just by doing something I enjoyed doing i.e. writing and using my imagination. It was a no-brainer unlike my day job. Now however, this money, hard earned or not, is sitting in some virtual space. Some will trickle in over the coming week, and I have no way of accepting it without first inputting information of a US Bank Account which I do not have. Its like being invited to a Brazilian roasted meat buffet when you are vegetarian. Can see, cannot touch.

Its frustrating. But its an eye opener for me. At the end of the day, this money I “make” online is not real money. It won’t be real money until and unless I hold physical cash in my hands, which I’m not able to do now. No point me salivating over how much I have virtually. Its untouchable. No point telling people how much I “earn” when its all up in the air and I can’t accept it, while we are dependant on Paypal.

So, for now, until the Paypal problem is sorted out, I’m taking a break from earning virtual USD. It’ll be good for me. Its always good to take a break from work anyway. Call it a vacation :)

All work and no play makes Paris B a really dull sorta gal hehe…

Oh my! And I thought I was the only one with this problem… Hehehe. Now I know I am not alone.

Btw, there is a way to get around this problem. You can open an online US bank account even though you’re a Malaysian (which is what I intend to do this week). Wanna details? If yes, email me and I’ll email you the method how to.

    You wait…you’ll see your cash a.s.a.p. ;)

By the way, interesting lead Rinnah has got but make sure it is a well-known bank. Some virtual sites can just go “lesap” in a day with all your funds :P

Yes, I’m also caught in the trap.
My friend has a workaround though. Not sure if it’s legit but she claims it works.

    Rinnah, please tell me more…

hmmm… I think I have like $1 in my Paypal account, but totally forgot about it… lol! yea, these things are such a hassle when they don’t offer full services especially in our own country. so close, yet so far away…

good luck, hope you’re able to get that money somehow!

Huh? What the heck is going on here? Really does not make any sense at all. Hope they fix things soon. Not a good move for international commerce for sure.
