Oh the Grand Old Duke of York

by ParisB on August 29, 2007

The Grand old Duke of York
He had ten thousand men
He marched them up to the top of the hill
And he marched them down again

Remember that nursery rhyme? I can sing it for you if you like :) Sis thought I was off my rocker and wondered how on earth I remember these things. Well, the brain is a largely underused mass of cells so….

What this bit of rhyming brings us to is the fact that I had received a forwarded email this morning, inviting me to a reception with the Duke of York i.e. Prince Andrew this evening, as in NOW. Wahlau! Can you say last minute?!

I tried to confirm my attendance but there was no one picking up my phone at the British High Commission. I thought the Brits were efficient, punctual, time watching people. So, I’ve missed my one opportunity to make my claim to fame. :(

And when they were up
They were up
And when they were down
They were down
And when they were only halfway up
They were neither up nor down!

No confirmation is okay. Just crash the party then.

Lucky you! Guess what? The US/Sesame Street version “Good Old Captain Brown” is actually one of my son’s favorite rhymes now :-)

Just crash it, PB! If they throw you out, you can come to my place!
