When I last wrote about the yellow rose I received, I promised to take a picture of the lilies when they opened. And here they are.
These are my favourite-est flowers of all time - white stargazer lilies. The pink ones are nice too, but I prefer them white. When they first open, the insides of the flower are so pristine and untouched, and the smell is so intoxicating. I just love the way they perfume the house. It can be a little overpowering in a small room, but in the living hall, it works better than any house freshener.

I usually buy them as buds. I’m really kiasu so I get the stalks with at least 3 buds and if they are as fresh as the flower shop promises you then you are in for a treat! I buy them from the flower wholesalers so they don’t cost very much, maybe RM5 or RM6 per stalk and they can last up to 1 week to 10 days. Healthier than using artificial fresheners and prettier too!
On another note, I spent the better part of dinner listening to someone talk more than I do. Tell me, is it possible to out-talk a female?! He was babbling on about what he wanted in a life partner. Hello? If that was a subtle hint as to what I should be doing were I interested, um… no. If that was a subtle hint to tell me I don’t fit the bill, um… no!
How rude, non?

Many years ago, I, like many other tourists, lined up on the pier at Philip Island, Australia to see the little fairy penguins come in from the sea to return to their burrows. We oohed and aahed over the little feathery birds as they waddled out of the cold sea and then, taking stock of their location, waddled back to their homes.
It was quite amazing to see these little birds head back to their burrows without hesitation although the surrounding terrain looked quite homogeneous and unassuming to me. I wondered how on earth they ever managed to find their own burrows in all that landscape.
Today, this imagery of little waddly flightless birds came back to me as I drove along to work. I had a few things on my mind and so was not really paying attention to where I was going, save as to monitor the traffic flow. The next thing I knew, I was turning into my office building, all without even realising where I was going!
It then struck me that I’m not very different from a fairy penguin.
I am perfectly capable of finding my way home and to work without having to pay too much attention to my surroundings. All I have to do is get in my car and start driving and the auto-pilot takes over. If an alien were watching, it might be amazed to at how this human can get into its monoxide belching tin can and find its way home without any hesitation or guidance whatsoever. 5pm might even be a spectator sport on Planet Zak.
And what d’ya know? Fairy penguins and I both preen! *preen*

I think I’m being cynical here, but is a movie date a good idea on a first or second date?
I think its an awesome idea if you already know the other person, because heck, who doesn’t enjoy going to the movies and stuffing your face with popcorn and sticky sugar-filled drinks? Ok, I don’t like the stuffing your face bit, because I find it distracting to eat during a movie, unless its a really boring ol’ movie, then I wish I had popcorn on me.
But coming back to my first thought, I personally don’t think movies make good first or second dates because although you are sitting there together for the better part of 2 hours, you might as well be in a world of your own, as you stare, absorbed at the big screen. You can’t talk and you can’t make stupid comments about the acting or risk being shushed by the other patrons. However, a drive in or anything that allows you to sit relatively cocooned from others is a fair option by me, because if you are wont to want to comment on parts of the movie (as I sometimes do) or talk (if the movie is really boring) then you won’t get people telling you to shut up.
So, what is a movie then, other than a form of an ice-breaker perhaps? And only if you choose to discuss how good or how crap it was after the show. Otherwise, I think movies are really just over-rated and an expensive time to sit by yourself in the dark, as far as first or seconds dates go.
All that said, Hairspray (the movie) is so awesome, I’m contemplating getting the soundtrack AND catching the Broadway musical if its still showing and if I ever get my butt over to New York!
Oh, as a caveat, this is just a random thought and is not based on any personal experiences whatsoever.
And on a lighter note, here are pictures of a yellow rose given to me by a friend on Friday. Yellow, I’m told signifies friendship. Aww….
It was a bud on Friday that has bloomed most prettily and its sweet distinctive rose fragrance now fills my house, together with the lilies that aren’t pictured because they haven’t yet bloomed. I’ll post up a picture when they do.

Roses aren’t my favourite flowers though. They die too quickly for my liking. However, I do make exceptions for fresh roses bought from the flower shop that aren’t already packaged into a bouquet. Those roses, being fresh, are usually more likely to last, and to continue blooming for a few days therefore prolonging the pleasure perhaps?
They don’t make a pretty gift though, wrapped up as they are in plain paper, with thorns and leaves intact, but I wouldn’t have them any other way, because well, you gotta take the rose with its thorns eh?

I don’t quite know what I ate yesterday from my first taste of organic food/organic cooking, to roast pork knuckles and beer but today, I woke up with a headache (no it wasn’t a hangover) and a nauseous feeling in the pit of my stomach.
The nausea got worse during the morning causing me to cancel dinner plans and just left me feeling all round awful. Fortunately, as the day wore on, I felt a tad better. Still, it made me wonder what caused it.
♥♥♥♥♥
And that horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach also caused me to cancel plans for a dim sum buffet tomorrow. Made me feel quite bad about spoiling plans for that.
♥♥♥♥♥
I’m going for Hairspray tomorrow! Hurrah! I haven’t seen a musical in ages so it should be fun. I’d not seen the stage musical but I’m sure nothing beats seeing John Travolta in drag!

And finally, my Streamyx connection at home is starting to resemble broadband instead of dial-up. I’m not quite sure what happened, but for once, the technical assist people at TMNet did something right. I suspect its the splitter device that allows you to use your phone and internet at one time. I was told to unplug it and connect straight into the wall socket and voila! fast(er) connection again! So, next time you have a problem of your Streamyx slowing down without reason, try removing the splitter. I don’t use a land line phone anyway, so it makes no difference to me.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Yesterday was an awesome day.
Today is horrible.
So horrible, I succumbed to whining to people I hardly know. I never do that! I am the epitome of poise and refinement *ahem* *pats perfectly coiffured hair*
Anyway, today saw me behaving like a Formula One driver in the seat of a race car, in the race of my life or rather, in the race against time. I did things I hardly ever do when on the road. I sped, weaved in and out of traffic, turned the air blue with my curses, honked my horn whenever possible, flashed slow drivers in front of me. All in all, behaved as a mat rempit in a car would.
And you know what I discovered?
- I can drive very fast and relatively safely if I have to (because I know I need to get to my destination in one piece).
- My car is so under-powered its not funny! I need a 2.0l engine at least!
- I still don’t know what the over-drive button does and when I should use it.
- BMWs think they have the right to hog the fast lane even though there’s a little Vios bearing down at them from the rear, flashing its headlights madly to get them out of the way. Grr…
- I am perfectly capable of whining to perfect strangers.
I got to my destination and got what I had to do right on time, just before the doors closed.
Close shave? Yes.
Would I do it again? Not in a hurry.
Note:
All stunts pulled in today’s post were done by an untrained professional. For your safety please do not try this at home, unless you are a Mat Rempit, in which case, pfbtttt!
