Great, after everything legal gets settled, the mind-boggling question starts.
What mobile phone should I get?
I don’t want something too expensive. Breaking the RM1.5k to RM2k barrier or coming close is cutting too close for comfort for me. I cannot justify carrying around something that expensive and that likely to disappear either through carelessness or theft.
So, this is what I want in a mobile phone:
- Makes and accepts calls
- Easy to use for SMS
- Camera
- Wifi (if possible)
- Bluetooth
- Below RM1k if its not asking too much
- Candybar style preferred but flip or slide will be considered
- Slim
Is there any phone out there that matches the above criteria and looks decent? I’m not considering any “underwater phones” and neither am I looking at LG. I’m also afraid of Sony Ericsson’s dreaded “lag”, otherwise I would be happy to consider any of the SE Cybershot phones since they take awesome photos.
Anyway, tell me your mobile phone recommendations and why in the comments form below please! Thank you kindly!

Today on the morning radio show, the topic for discussion was:
Guys should not have to make the first call after the first date.
Reactions from callers were mixed but I think the consensus was that there is a “Dating Rule Book” to follow, and that in The Rule Book guys should have to make the first move after the first date if they are interested.
Do you think the Rule Book erm… rules?

After I realised my bag was stolen, one of the first things I did was call up the various banks to have my credit cards blocked and replaced. One of the last I called for the day was HSBC.
Their phone service was quick and the customer service was polite.
Yesterday, just 2 days after I called them for a replacement card, a brand new credit card was couriered to my mailing address, complete with brochure, a little journal diary for 2008 (it looks classy!) and a GSC card that enables me to get 2 movie tickets for the price of 1! Considering that it happened on a Saturday that’s effectively only 1 working day’s service!
A few hours after I received the card, I received a phone call to enquire if everything was in order. You gotta love their service!!
I have neither seen hide nor hair of any of the other banks I contacted. Citibank called me for more verification and told me yesterday it would take another 7 days for me to get my cards. If I depended on them, I mati liao without my plastic money
At least with the replacement of my HSBC credit card, I’m back in the world of financial freedom, without fear of not having sufficient cash on me. And this little episode is making me think of sticking to my HSBC card as my primary credit card.
I’m so pleased I went with HSBC that I’m happily giving them premium advertising space here for free! ♥ HSBC!

Way back in May 2007 (a scant 6 months ago) I took possession of my then new Samsung SGH E830 mobile phone. Whilst I never really warmed up to the phone nor fall in love with it the way I used to my previous phones, I rather liked the little bugger.
And now its gone
But this is where the fun starts, for this nifty little gadget came with a feature called UTrack. Essentially, upon activation of the service, should the phone go missing and someone else find it and insert another SIM card into the phone, the phone will immediately send a message from that number to your pre-assigned contacts.
And when my phone went missing, the next day, my siblings received a message from the person’s mobile number and giving my IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number of my phone.
For posterity, its going to be recorded here:
IMEI: 353496 01 066078/8
Thief’s phone number: 016-XXX XXXX (removed for safety reasons)
I’m assuming its the thief’s number of course. It could just be someone the phone was fenced to *shrug* Anyway, I called Samsung to see what they can do about it, and to my despair, they said nothing.
There is a way to disable or block the phone from functioning, apparently, but its not available here until next year. However, they did say they would put the IMEI number out in the grapevine so their official service centres are aware its a stolen phone - much good it’ll do me. I want the phone rendered useless!!
So, here’s a challenge to all phone hackers. If you can and are willing to do me a huge favour, tell me if the phone can be disabled by using the IMEI and if you can do it remotely? In return, you will earn my everlasting respect and gratitude. I don’t intend to call them and embroil myself in any tangle and the number has been given to the police (who aren’t very helpful).
I’m using the only way I know how to get back - through cyberspace. I don’t reckon the thieves will read this, but if they do and they are, let it be known that I have placed a curse on the phone and my wallet and its contents - may warts grow where the sun don’t shine and cause you to itch till you are walking like cross-eyed ducks.
So yes, thats the IMEI info and the mobile number of the miscreants - please tell me someone can do something about it? Or maybe I should make a few crank calls from a public phone booth *evil cackle*

Stupid idiots.
They tell me they need my IC to issue me a new ATM card. When I called the bank’s service centre they tell me the police report will do.
Bank service centre tells me one thing, bank branch tells me another. If I freaking got my wallet stolen and have a police report to prove it, am I likely to want to scam my regular bank (they see me every other day and know me by name) of an ATM card?
All I want is a freaking ATM to get some freaking money out of my freaking account so I’m not freaking penniless!! Freaking hell!!
*ParisB rants and raves like a lunatic*
