Dear Diary,
I had a relatively productive weekend. I satisfied my curiousity about middle east dining at Al Nafourah at Le Meridien Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Whilst the ambiance was quite nice, the waiters were over-eager to clear our plates and the music a tad too loud for our liking. The food was alright – exotic and different. I’m told there is belly dancing at night, and the tented, cushioned alcoves look like they would make for a comfortable tete-a-tete. So, I’ll return solely for that experience. Oh and the next time, I might actually remember a camera to record the food for a review.
Sunday morning saw me getting out of bed bright and early to participate in the Terry Fox Run thanks to the urging and blackmail of Pink Elle. In order to ensure my participation on the day, she took the initiative to buy me a T-shirt for charity thereby guilting me into going for the run. She is so sneaky no?
I don’t run. Period. I just don’t. So, I opted to walk (relatively briskly), along with the hundreds of other people who turned up on the day. (To her credit, Pink Elle sprinted off early and I found her waiting for me at the finish
) And to my surprise, a 6.5km walk around Lake Gardens in Kuala Lumpur did not put me out of breath that much. In fact, so high I was on the adrenaline rush, that I decided that I might make it a weekly affair to pace around the park! Maybe by the next Terry Fox Run next year, I’d actually be able to RUN the course instead of merely walk it!
I’m waiting for the pictures to be uploaded from Pink Elle’s camera. If I’m feeling generous, there might even be a picture of Paris Beaverbanks at the TF Run!
After the run saw us stuffing our faces with Chilli Pan Mee. We had planned it early so it was something for us to look forward to, even though we joined the queue along with everyone else for free ice-cold Milo and muffins and buns after the run. The chilli pan mee probably undid all the goodness that the run/walk did, but it was oh so good! Evidently, many other Terry Fox Runners had the same idea for the shop was filled with people in the T-shirts! Great minds think alike!
And lastly, the weekend ended off with a Korean dinner where sis’s friend, J, ordered Silkworm Pupa soup. After pulling many faces and at sis’s urging of “Its an experience and its blog-worthy!” I took a deep breath, scooped up a pupa and crunched down on it, swallowing quickly. How did it taste? Like beans with an after taste of prawn heads
One was about all I could handle, chased down by a big gulp of shoju. I totally regret that we had no camera on us, for it is not an experience I’d care to repeat. Incidentally, J broke out in allergic rashes towards the end of the meal. The rest of us proclaimed him allergic to silkworms because it was the only “foreign” item on the table and so that puts paid to any future exotic food orders.
And thus ends another fun-filled food-filled weekend. I’m so happy its going to be a short week this week due to it being Deepavali/Diwali. Hurrah for living in a multi-racial multi-religious country! Did you have a good weekend?

Yes, I had a great weekend. Filled with shopping and food and more food! Would love to see some pics of you jogging and/or walking though.
Mmm…..food! Yummy! Do I smell a review coming soon?
Giddy Tiger: Yay for shopping and food! We’ll have to see about the pictures
Pablo:Yes there will be reviews if I remember the camera next time
The T-shirt did do its job, didn’t it?! Hehe…and that silkworm thing was gross. Though after the allergy and stomach upset episode, I bet this is the last we’ll be seeing of it!
I like the olives and humus when I go for middle eastern food. Some pretty healthy eating from that part of the world.
Ohhhh! A picture!!! Cool.
That sounds like a supercool weekend! And uh, I feel my allergies starting to act up on reading about the silkworms…
yerrr… can I have some of that chili pan mee too? love it!
p.s. how come we’ve never Facebook-ed ah?
