Great, after everything legal gets settled, the mind-boggling question starts.
What mobile phone should I get?
I don’t want something too expensive. Breaking the RM1.5k to RM2k barrier or coming close is cutting too close for comfort for me. I cannot justify carrying around something that expensive and that likely to disappear either through carelessness or theft.
So, this is what I want in a mobile phone:
- Makes and accepts calls
- Easy to use for SMS
- Camera
- Wifi (if possible)
- Bluetooth
- Below RM1k if its not asking too much
- Candybar style preferred but flip or slide will be considered
- Slim
Is there any phone out there that matches the above criteria and looks decent? I’m not considering any “underwater phones” and neither am I looking at LG. I’m also afraid of Sony Ericsson’s dreaded “lag”, otherwise I would be happy to consider any of the SE Cybershot phones since they take awesome photos.
Anyway, tell me your mobile phone recommendations and why in the comments form below please! Thank you kindly! ![]()

Nokia 6300, around RM800. Sony Ericsson also has a few like the K550i.
There are a lot of phones out there that fit all the requirements you want.
However, to ask for a phone less than RM1000 but with Wi-Fi is too much. Haha.
i prefer nokia 6300.. coz I also gonna buy that phone for my girlfriend :D.. maybe this week.. if u want our review about that, i’ll ask her to write some.. but have to wait nxt week la
…
I’m now using SE K800i, no complains or whatsoever on the claimed “lag” problems… in fact it has never hang on me yet…
Takes great photos, and apart from WiFi, it’s a great all rounder. It’s now priced around RM800 I think… so it’s pretty much worth it. I bought mine for RM1100 about 8 months ago…
no need to think wan… iPhone! whee!
but because that’s not out yet, consider the Nokia 6500 classic series - they’ve finally come up with a sleek-looking phone once more that I don’t mind carrying.
Nokia Nokia!!!!
Jason: Yeah I know the Wifi request is stretching it a tad heh… I’ll look at your recs thanks.
Superhero W: Hooray! Do get her to review it please! I’d like to know more about it.
Drekker: Thanks for your rec. I used to have a Sony Ericsson that had that dreaded lag problem but its a long time ago. Is it heavy or bulky?
May: Aiyo! but that kills my budget! :O lol… I think the 6500’s just launched. I’ll look at it.
GT: I was thinking of a Nokia and an N series but its so ex!
My phone has WiFi and I got it cheap for only RM1.3k but it’s an underwater.
The camera’s not bad too… 3 megapixel. Oh, and I love the music player function. LOL!
WiFi is too much! LOL!
Cybershot fons cud be K810i (K800i’s replacement model) which I think shud be below 1.5k. The new 5 megapixels K850i is near 2k, but it’s so damn gorgeous! I’m using a K800i and there’s certainly no lag in this fon. It’s a gr8 fon with all the functions I want, though the joystick can become less sensitve over time, but it’s not a big deal. Even my dad’s low-end K500i experiences no lag at all!
Nokia’s 6300 is slim, but I find the camera and certain functions quite mediocre, very far in quality from those Cybershots.
And I love the new Samsungs! If u’re used to ur previous Samsung interface, u can reconsider Samsung. Their Ultra series fons look damn chic and nice! E950 (with brand new graphics user interface aka GUI), U700 and D950i are 3 Samsung models that make me drool. *wipes away saliva*
sorry not D950i, but D900i for that Samsung model.
Rinnah: Ooh I love yours but its a bit beyond me at the moment
kyh: wah I’ll have to digest all your recs. Thanks for the info!
