Different dimensions

Do you sometimes feel like you have entered another dimension?

I’d always traipsed along gaily in my own dimension, skipping along in my own meadow with the wild flowers. However, in recent times, I feel like I have climbed over a stile and stepped into another dimension altogether, that looks exactly like my own, but where things don’t work out the way they should, or people turning up when they shouldn’t, and things happening when they shouldn’t.

Similarities, differences.

I spent the weekend in a totally different dimension from mine.

It is a dimension where soft little furry rats from Ikea make sense.

It is also where I go for Beowulf expecting to see Angelina Jolie and Anthony Hopkins and get a CGI-ed cartoon. It was unexpected and truly, it is not a movie for those under 13 years old as recommended. There is lots of gore and violence and suggestive bawdy jokes. I felt the last one was totally unnecessary and did not help the movie at all. Not recommended viewing. And here are famous last words re the movie before it began “Its Beowulf, how bad can it be?” Och! Bad indeed!

I went for a play and fell asleep towards the end. It was awful, sorry! *cringe* But it was for a cause.

I met people I was not supposed to meet in a situation which felt rather like an ambush - whether an ambush for me or for them, its hard to say. Either way, I don’t think it was that much more comfortable for them than it was for me.

I sat through a belly dancing performance at dinner, not knowing where to look as the belly dancer gyrated and moved sinously through her dance moves and in her scanty clothing. I mean seriously, looking at her face would be doing her a disservice to her performance, and looking at her lithe body made me feel a little like a voyeur.

And it is a dimension where this look, if perfected, could definitely get you places.

Shrek 2 - Puss in Boots

Aww….

None of the above would have happened in my dimension as I know it. So it must be the workings of a separate parallel dimension, right? :) Well, except for the ambush, everything else was pretty alright and fun.

So, did you have a good weekend?

Feed the world…

… and learn at the same time.

Sis sent me a link to this site that promises Free Rice in that for each word you get correct, they will donate 10 grains of rice through the United Nations to end world hunger.

Very noble.

I don’t know how true it is, but its darned addictive plus you learn loads of new words and their meanings. Even if no rice gets donated, you enrich your vocabulary by miles.

Try it. And don’t blame me if you get hooked ;)

Dr. Feelgood is in the house

This week started out with me feeling poorly but then quickly starting to feel much better as the week progressed. Very odd, I must add. I have to attribute my quick recovery to Xango - an antioxidant supplement drink thing. I must admit I was sceptical about its benefits but because I was feeling off, I took large doses of it and went to sleep. I actually felt much better the next day - the sniffles stopped and I stopped feeling the chills. I’d been taking it quite regularly before though so maybe its that too. Thanks to Sis for the recommendation. :)

Sis and I are hatching some foolhardy plan to go on a Food Hunt. *laughs hysterically* Can you imagine 2 balls of fluff attempting to navigate a car and read clues? In Penang some more! Neither of us knows the roads in Penang! So, if we get lost, please expect a frantic phone call to get us back on track, Giddy Tiger! :)

I must be growing up. I’ve had reports of my personal poltergeist rearing its ugly head but what have I done? No, no more meltdowns. This time, I laughed. Long and hard at the ridiculousness of it all. Not even the shrill bitter laugh of the cynical, but the truly amused laughter of someone who’s just been told a good joke - and honestly, it was funny… to me. Yes, 9 months down the road and I can laugh - its a good sign. *pats self on back* (I do yoga and am flexible so this is possible)

I managed to grab some excellent shopping deals during the week at Phenomenal. They do really pretty party and evening dresses but it usually costs quite a bit. I popped by on a whim and picked up some real bargains for under RM100 in total because they are having a Value Buy promotion! Needless to say, sis quickly jumped at the opportunity to pick up some deals too! Whee for good shopping deals!

And while at the mall, I noticed that many stores have put up Christmas decorations. I maybe commercial and shallow but I love Christmas time. The decorations are always so pretty and the carols give you this feel good buzz that makes you feel all warm and toasty and with goodwill towards everyone. Coupled with it being the end of the year and therefore being a more relaxed time at work, Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year. I can’t wait till all the mall decors come up. Maybe I’ll do a bit of mall-ratting and check out the Christmas decor at the various malls this year.

In line with Christmas coming and all, I realised I have no idea what mistletoe looks like. So, I looked it up just to be sure I know what bit of greenery to place myself under.

So, apparently, this is mistletoe (what I thought was mistletoe previously, spikey leaves and red berries were actually holly leaves and holly berries!) and this is what I should be standing under. So, kiss me already yes? :)

Smooch!!

Happy Friday and happy weekend all!

Random thought of the day #3

Fate.

Providence.

Star-crossed.

Things that happen. People you meet.

Call it what you want.

Do you believe in fate? I do. :)

Why do I blog?

Pablo wrote a nifty little thought provoking post on Blogsreview.net asking us bloggers “Why do you Blog?“. I’d been thinking about it too rather more constantly recently due to that Google PR shake up thing that caused many blogs to have their page rank revised - some for the better, some for the worse.

The thing about that PR thing that got many bloggers hopping mad, is that it nearly only impacts those who try to make a living from their blog, or those who are seeking the extra cash. I was one of those affected, and yes, the income is affected and the opportunities are less. On the up side, I don’t spend as much time on the computer looking for opportunities to grab and I practically stay away from the computer on weekends. But is that why I blog?

Why do you blog?

I blog because I love to write. No two ways about it. I started my blogs because of my love for writing and I’m going to continue, despite the PR revisions and despite not making much shopping money online anymore. At the end of the day, I’m blogging for me and I’ve just renewed my hosting and domains for another year. So yes, there’s at least 1 more year of Paris Beaverbanks around - love it or hate it :)

What do you hope to achieve by blogging?

For me, it is self-satisfaction and maybe some self-gratification. Blogging is a good outlet for me to express myself and my views here on this site. However, over on My Women Stuff, my goals are more tailored towards public awareness. Not all products work for everyone, but having a real person review it from experience, as opposed to reading a press blurb in the magazines or online does help a person in making up their mind as to whether something is worth purchasing or trying.

On All about Shopping! I hope to highlight good and bad shopping and the benefits and pitfalls of online shopping; and on the Pink Parisian, its all about food - mine and what I eat. The goals maybe different on each site, but taken in sum, its all about self-gratification, in the hope that something you say, no matter how insignificant, could be of help to someone else.

How much time do you spend a day doing blogging related work (as described above)

An hour or two in the day and again at night. Its been reduced significantly since I managed to structure my time better and since the paid opportunities melted away like the snow at the first glimpse of the sun. Also, having a life kinda cramps your blogging time a tad but as everyone pointed out the last time I mentioned this, getting a life is a good thing because it gives you something to blog about! An example is my little dip into haute cuisine and wine at Qba last week. I’d probably have forgotten about the event until it was too late, or missed going altogether. Instead, I now have a review of it (despite it looking terribly sponsored, it was not unless you count the fact that my dinner was technically sponsored, since I did not pay ;) )

So, these are the reasons why I blog.

And these are the reasons why I will continue to blog.
