iTouch the iPod Touch

Last week, I had 2 iExperiences, both of which made me think of LB and his love for the Apple Mac. One was the iPhone - can anyone say drool-worthy? and the other was an ad in the papers for the iPod Touch.

I’ve been doing a bit of traveling lately for work and am mostly relying on 3G to access the net on the go. But I thought having wifi on the phone would be better won’t it? And then, I opened the newspaper and lo and behold! A half page ad on the iPod Touch!

Internet browsing! Email! Stocks! (not that I know how to deal with the latter)

I was smitten. It was iLove at first sight. So during the weekend, I took my brother, dressed down significantly and trooped off to the Apple store in Bangsar Village II.

First of all, let me rave on about the gadget. It was so slim but I did not expect the weight. It was heavier than it looked and heavier than I expected. The screen resembles the iPhone and basically, other than the phone and camera function, it is halfway there to being an iPhone.

I was super impressed by the way the screen switches to landscape mode when you flip the gadget on its side, and the way you can zoom in and out just by touching the screen. All very iGadget-y. I could see myself messing around with it in a wifi hotspot, reading my mails, updating my blogs (ahem!), surfing the net… but 8MB costs RM1399. Ouchies!

Now, for the rant. Don’t read if you don’t like rants. The service at the Apple store in Bangsar Village II was abysmal. There were no customers in the store and the few staff on hand were looking bored and playing with the computers in the store. One of the sales guys came up and asked if he could help and I said I was interested in the iPod Touch.

He proceeded to launch into a sales pitch in a bored tone without showing me anything; and I finally had to ask if there was a demo model I could see. With an irritated look, he unlocked a glass cabinet, took out a brand new set from a box in there and proceeded to demonstrate it. I held out my hand to try it, but he wouldn’t let me hold it! I was really put off at this point.

So, after asking a few questions and letting him talk, I placed my hand on the set and physically tugged on it so he was forced to let go. I mean, how do you expect anyone to buy anything off you if you don’t even let them hold the bloody thing?! I was dressed in sandals, shorts and a tee. He must have thought I was going to run off with the thing! Clearly someone who hasn’t heard of the shabby millionaire.

I was barely able to play with it when he took it back from me! From his demeanour and sales pitch, I’m not sure if he was even interested in selling anything. Well, I wasn’t going to buy anything from him either!

After (marginally) playing with the iPod Touch, I’m rethinking buying it. I don’t listen to music on the go and all I really want is something that will allow me to connect to the internet. I reckon a wifi enabled phone should do the trick which should reduce the number of gadgets in my bag. Then again, who’s to say that I won’t start using all the other functions if I do get it eh? ;)

Ah iTemptations!

Yours fluffily

What an idiot salesperson! Humph! There seem to be a lot of them running around lately.

Did you say that ze iTouch is WiFi enabled? *drool drool drool* I’m missing the WiFi function on my stolen N80 baby so much! *sobz*

Hmm. Do I want it or do I not want it… RM1399 is about the same price I paid for my N80 last year… oh, the temptation! Dang!

Aitelyu! Some of the salespersons at ’some’ Mac places ARE the pits! Apart from your experience, the one upstairs at The Place is Shitty Beyond Compare. So snotty! So haughty! I thought maybe the first time was just an off day for them, but no, the second time was just as bad, and the third even worse. Pahh!

But, barring sad & sick Mac salespersons, the iPod touch really has its merits. If the iPhone hadn’t blown my socks off (and still does), I’d go for one. As it is, the rumors yesterday that maybe Italy will be getting the first 3G iPhones in a couple of weeks has me drooling again from toe to toe..

    Come to Papa!!

Oh I want the iPhone…but company policy denotes must use Nokia…*shrugs*…I’m still dying to get my hands on the N95 8GB…arrrgghh…

And yes, there seems to be an inordinate amount of SH*T service going around now…what’s their deal??

Idiotic salesman indeed. There goes his commission. *scoff*

Anyhoos, the iPod Touch is OMG gorgeous. I can’t stop playing with mine; I surf blogs, etc in bed when Tim’s asleep and I can’t sleep yet. I think I used it more for the wifi than the music and video features :P

And ouch, RM1399 for 8GB? Very expensive oh.

Rinnah: It cant make calls or take photos though. That’s why I’m balking at paying RM1399! And yes what an idiot!

LB: So Apple sales people are all like that?! Darn! Don’t want to see them anymore! And yet…

Beetrice: wah! Do they provide you the phone then? ;) I’m still hankering after a Nokia which would cost something like that of this iPod touch no?

Tine: Oh yeah! I completely forgot that you have it! No! No! Don’t tempt me! :P And yes RM1399 is terribly expensive. Any cheaper in Oz? ;)

I was in Apple store too last weekend in KL, the ones in Lot Ten and KLCC. The service was really bad in both places too. I’d say that they get iTitude!

I was there to buy laptop bag and spec cases only for my MacBook. So I didn’t care much. But really, they were not helpful at all. I knew already what I needed to get, luckily.

But, if you go to the Apple place at AmCorp Mall, and mention me to the lady boss Ms Hiau, she will look after you in the best possible way! She is great! The best!

oops, not Ms Hiau! Ms Hau!

I’m not a tech fan, so most of this is just whooosh! over my head.

But I *had* to laugh at LB’s comment. Just as I was thinking that Ms Hiau is a really funny name too!
