Money woes?

by ParisB on May 22, 2008

I received a cheque yesterday for an affiliate program I had forgotten about. Apparently, I’d earned a little bit of extra cash from Linkshare and they had sent me a cheque.

All good so far?

Money in hand is always good, yes? Especially USD with the strengthening USD against the RM now.

When I opened the envelope I could not help laughing at the amount. Look how much I got!

US$6.43 – It cost them over US$1 to send it all the way to me from the USA not to mention the admin costs etc. I’ve since logged into my account to set a limit for payment, and found that no more money is due to me – bah!

Now, I’m in a dilemma. How do I go about cashing in this cheque?

Previously, when I received a Google cheque in USD, I banked it into my account and it took about 2 months to clear. Apparently, they have to send it back to the USA to be processed and for that, the bank charges you a fee – anywhere between RM10 to RM20.

If I were to cash in this cheque of US$6.43 (RM20.58), practically the whole sum would be wiped out by the bank charges!

Worth it? Sigh… Got money also problem. No money also problem…

That’s so true…sometimes these people don’t think before they send – what’s the point of having all the money gobbled up by administrative costs?

** but then again, you didn’t even realise you had it…so…not a big loss? hmmm…

Step 1: Delete this post
Step 2: Tear the cheque in two
Step 3: Send them an email saying the cheque got damaged in the mail. Oh, by the way don’t send me a replacement cheque just yet.

Gasp I didn’t know I could be so dishonest!

Better than getting a cheque for USD1, then errr….you have to pay the bank? :P

Few years back, I found a $25 US cheque somewhere after being back here for 3-4 months, was told it would cost about $20 to cash a personal check (fees charged by banks on both sides). I just dumped it. :-)
