Haha… no its not as gross a topic as the title of this post implies. I’m just responding to the Giddy Tigress’ tag on bookworms.
Do you remember how you developed a love for reading?
No but I’ve loved reading ever since I could read as a wee babe. My mom is still proud of the fact that I could read and recognize letters way before I could walk. LOL… Reading has given me a tremendously fertile imagination - over imaginative sometimes, if you ask me, but the worlds and wonders its opened up for me are boundless.
What are some books you read as a child?
Anything by Enid Blyton! Who else? I was born pre-Harry Potter and I’m glad I was because I think Harry Potter isn’t the be all and end all for kid stories (but that’s another story) If I have kids, I’ll continue to bring them up on a diet of Enid Blyton’s books be they nursery stories involving dresden dolls and golliwogs, fairy stories like the Faraway Tree and the Wishing Chair, stories about magic and the impossible, school stories like The Naughtiest Girl at School, Malory Towers, St. Clares, adventure stories like The Secret Seven and the Famous Five… is there any genre that Enid Blyton did not cover?
I also happily devoured the Arabian Nights, classics like Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer, encyclopedias, dictionaries (!!!) and anything in print I could get my hands on. I got into trouble many a time for reading story books when I should be studying (both at school and at home) but can you blame me when story books are so much more interesting than dry history and geography?!
What is your favourite genre?
Fantasy, without a doubt. Not Sci-fi which is usually future and robotics related but fantasy - magic, fantastical worlds… and humour. If I get both in one as good as Terry Pratchett does them, its a bonus!

Do you have a favourite novel?
No. But I do have a favourite series - The Discworld series. And I’m thisclose to having a full collection! Hurrah!
Where do you usually read?
These days, in bed just before slipping off into dreamland, with my finger caught between the pages of a book.
When do you usually read?
At night loh since I read in bed…
Do you usually have more than one book you are reading at a time?
Haha… YES! Sometitmes I start one book then get bored halfway so I start another which I hope is more interesting. Sometimes I return to the first book but find I’ve lost the plot! So, don’t try reading 2 books at once. Its one of those things you aren’t supposed to multi-task.
Do you read nonfiction in a different way or place than you read fiction?
Erm… no, why should I? But I don’t do much non-fiction except cook books then I read them in the kitchen…. haha!
Do you buy most of the books you read, or borrow them, or check them out of the library?
Library? In Malaysia? Gotta be kidding.
I buy most of my books which explains the need for an ever growing book case. However, since books are now so expensive, I usually buy them at book warehouse sales or at discounts if I can’t get them at a warehouse sale. So, most of the time, my reading material is on a feast or famine basis depending on whether I’ve been to a sale recently.
Do you keep most of the books you buy? If not, what do you do with them?
Yes. There are some I would love to get rid of so I can make room for more but I’m sentimental
If you have children, what are some of the favorite books you have shared with them? Were they some of the same ones you read as a child?
No kids yet, but I’d ply them with the books I read as a kid and adventure and magic stories and fill ‘em up with tall tales because I’m like that ![]()
What are you reading now?
Just finished up The Light Fantastic (again!) by Terry Pratchett last night.
Do you keep a TBR (to be read) list?
No. I go into my “library” and pore over the shelves until something catches my eye.
What’s next?
I got some new books last weekend (Its a feast this week!) and will probably start on those - either Trudi Carnavan’s Black Magician series or Terry Pratchett’s latest - Making Money (A subject close to my heart haha…) or one of Lindsay Davis’ ancient Rome crime mysteries infused with lots of humour.
What books would you like to reread?
I am always re-reading anything from the Discworld series or anything by Bill Bryson which coincidentally brings me to the next question….
Who are your favourite authors?
Terry Pratchett and Bill Bryson, hands down no hesitation!
So am I a bookworm? Yes and unashamedly so! As an aside, while I was stalking MPH during their recent sale, I just realised I’ve figured out the books and styles I like and enjoy, which means fewer costly book mistakes in the future. I’ve worked out that humour, fantasy and crime-thrillers will always go down well with me. I bought a book by Kathy Reichs who is the author who inspired the TV Series Bones (which I’m enjoying and am sad its coming to an end here) to try and if its good, there’s another series to look forward to!

However, after many attempts I’ve finally decided that I cannot read chick-lit or romance novels. Make no mistake, I did the whole romance novel thing back as a teen. It must be what killed my interest now but I cannot read anything light and fluffy in the vein of Sophie Kinsella or anything similar. I have a whole shelf of chick-lit books though. Some caught my attention, mainly due to humour or writing style, but most are unread, believe it or not. Its those pastel coloured covers and bright cartoons on them. They make me buy them even when the blurb isn’t all that interesting!
How are the 3 of you in the reading department?

If you like Fantasy, give Terry Goodkind’s Sword of Truth and also The Death Gate Cycle series of novels. Those are my favourites.
I love Enid Blyton books too! I’m a bit shy to admit that I’ve read Malory Towers and St Claire books (even though they’re obviously for girls only).
I used to have this confusion why they would eat dinner in the afternoon and supper in the evening!
I meant, “… series of novels a try”
Adino: Thanks for the recs! I think I’ve read a Terry Goodkind novel a while back but it didn’t grab me. Maybe will give it another shot! And yes, I used to think it weird that dinner was eaten at lunch!
So many good books so little time (& money). And space. *sigh*
Agreed wholeheartedly with Tummythoz. There are way too many books that I wanna read. And there’s a whole list of books I’ve read before and wanna buy, but saving my money for something else. And there’s not enough space in my room anymore. LOL.
Very interesting tag! Thanks for tagging me! Will do it next week. Stay tune!
I’m such a fan of Sophie Kinsella’s books
Thanks for the tag. I’m on it!
Send those Sophie Kinsella’s books over if you don’t dig ‘em! Hehe… I still have yet to start on “Can you keep a secret?”
[...] ParisB tagged me on this interesting meme over a week ago (see, told you I’m a terrible procrastinator!). Somehow, the word worm sends a chill down my spine, but I am indeed one when it comes to books. Here goes. [...]
