I started out with a sore throat not long after my birthday. In fact I was already feeling the bug during dinner but thought it would pass if I drank enough fluids and took enough vitamin C. Argh! It didn’t work!
So, 2 days later, I was walking around with a throat so sore I could barely swallow and going deaf in one ear. If this is how it feels like getting a year older, I dread to think of how bad it will be in 10 years!
Anyway, going deaf in one ear is good enough reason to see the dreaded doctor so off I went and got my medication that cured the throat and restored my hearing. But now, I’ve developed a wracking cough.
It lies dormant most of the day then keeps me up at night so now I’m like a zombie that looks like a panda. Not even my usual herbal cough drink helps. You don’t want to hear about my problems so tell me how I can get rid of a dry chest wracking cough? If it works, I’ll be your friend for life – promise.

Eat lots of ice cream. Yee tok kong tok. Tee hee :p
Seriously though, I’m afraid I have no idea. I normally take Pei Pa Kou and after a while, the cough goes away.
Get well soon!
@Tine:heh… ice cream will kill me for sure. I’m taking pei pa kou and keeping my fingers crossed it goes away quickly!
Hi, ParisB, i enjoy reading your blogs. I had that kind of cough before. I went to the chinese medicine shop, and the guy gave me some chinese pills, take 2 pills, 4 hours once. And by the next day, i was fine! You can just try hopping into one of those chinese medicine shops and tell what kind of cough you have. I tried all sorts of pei pa kou and cough syrup which didn’t work.
You poor thing! I use a few drops of my Magnolia essential oil, rub it between my palms and apply it to my back and chest and throat. Works wonders!
I use it on my kid as well, cos he doesn’t like medicine.
Magnolia smells like those Chinese herbs though. I’m not sure how i can send some to you though, but I can tell u where to get it in KL…quite pricey, btw.
Drink plenty of honey watered down or straight up. Just don’t use metal/stainless steel spoon/cup. Don’t ask me why. Mom’s orders.
@Catherine:Thanks! I’m usually wary of chinese medication but I might give this a shot.
@giddytigers: Does it help you sleep? I really need a good night’s sleep.
@tummythoz: My mom told me that too. I forgot about honey -will add that to my things to take for now.
Hope you’re better already
Pei pa koa helped Lucas and me!
For a good night’s sleep, rub some Vicks on the soles of your feet and put on socks. It’s an old wife’s tale but it helped Lucas from when he was 1…
