Ok I know I said no more ranting but heck! If I can’t rant about the state of gutter politics in this country here, where can I do so eh?
So this headline caught my eye this morning in The Star online – I only ever read the online version because I won’t contribute to the coffers of the puppet masters.
So, this is what caught my eye (link):-
Abdullah wants ‘suspended’ seven to attend assembly sitting
PUTRAJAYA: Attend the State Legislative Assembly sitting in order to serve the people and state of Perak — this the directive from Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and his six executive councillors who have been suspended by the State Assembly Speaker.
“Zambry and his exco members were appointed by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah. The action taken by the Speaker V. Sivakumar to suspend them is regarded as not respecting, objecting and rejecting the Sultan’s decision.
“What the Speaker has done is wrong. He cannot prevent these people from attending the State Assembly. I have spoken to Zambry about lodging a police report and he also shared the same idea. He told me that is what he intends to do,” said Abdullah.
First, he tells the MB to lodge a police report. He TELLS him to. Next, he TELLS the suspended exco members to attend the state assembly sitting. Never mind that the Speaker has not been changed and thus has the power to suspend anyone he wishes, rightly or wrongly. Note he does not ask him to challenge the legality of the suspension in the Courts. He TELLS him to lodge a report and defy the order – he TELLS him to break the rules.
In any event, why is this man making noise about disrespecting the Perak Sultan’s decision? Is this not the very same man who defied and denied the Terengganu Sultan’s decision to appoint the Menteri Besar last year? Lest we forget, here is the news from Bernama on 23 March 2008- Link.
Terengganu MB Appointment Unconstitutional, Says Abdullah
SEPANG, March 23 (Bernama) — The appointment of Kijal assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Said as the new Menteri Besar of Terengganu is unconstitutional, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
“Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh (who was slated for the post) commands majority support (among the elected representatives). This has not changed.
“As such, the appointment of any other person to the post is unconstitutional,” Abdullah said when asked to comment on the action by 22 Terengganu Barisan Nasional assemblyman in the state who have protested Ahmad’s appointment to lead the state.
So are there 2 sets of laws in this country then?
When the Bee En and the Pee Em defies the Terengganu Sultan’s order and calls his appointment unconstitutional, he can do so and no action is taken against him. There are no riots by the fiery youth calling for him to be drawn and quartered and hung by his toenails for being a traitor. There are no calls for him to be barred from Terengganu nor for his citizenship to be stripped.
Yet, one year later, when the Perak Pakatan Rakyat government challenges the decision of the Perak Sultan and says that it is unconstitutional suddenly they are traitors and there are calls to strip them of citizenship.
It will serve the people well to remember that there can only be 1 set of laws in a country and what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. If they want to riot and march against people who challenge the Perak Sultan’s decision, then do so too against those who had challenged the decision of the Terengganu Sultan a year ago.
Gutter politics. That’s what we have come down to and I for once am in full agreement with Tun Dr. M (link)
I think the Pee Em should stick his nose out of Perak’s affairs. He is on his last legs. He is due to step down as UMNO Head in a couple of weeks. Don’t go posturing and trying to be a hero. Let the Perak UMNO state chief – who incidentally is the Pee Em in waiting – handle the mess that was created by jumping frogs.
Honestly I’m tired of all this. But when I see things like this being said, I just can’t help but get mad at the gross unfairness that is not only done but is seen to be done.
