What is a reasonable time to expect a text message reply?

Your thoughts in a comment please.

What is a reasonable waiting time for a reply to a text message?

Is less than 7 hours (10am-5pm) on a working day reasonable?

Thoughts?

Let’s put it this way, if it’s urgent, you call. You don’t text. So it wouldn’t be fair to expect a quick reply because who knows, you might be busy and all.

I know of tight-arsed people who text and expect an immediate (in 30 mins) reply. And when I don’t reply asap, I get my head chewed off. When asked how come you didn’t call me instead, if it was that important to you to know my answer immediately?

“Oh, phone call expensive lah. SMS cheaper”.

So for working day hours, I believe it’s more than reasonable to reply within that time.

Well, if I want an answer right away, I call. If I sms, I don’t really expect someone to answer right away. But generally within a few hours. Unless I know the other person is busy… like erm.. got court case… teehee… then I’m far more tolerant.
