Star Trek : The Teenage Years

Thats not the official title but thats what it felt like to me. I personally felt that the whole cast looked too young – it was like they were playing at being the crew of the Enterprise.

It did not detract from the movie enjoyment, but I’m just saying…

For anyone who isn’t a Star Trek fan, you probably won’t enjoy it. It can get terribly confusing in many parts because of the time continuity. But for a Star Trek fan like me, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I was actually quite taken in by the fact that the actors chosen to play the crew of the Enterprise did look rather like the younger version of the crew in the series. This is the original series with Captain Kirk and Spock. See below.

Definitely some similarity there so thumbs up for the casting director! I’d never heard of any of the actors but you know the problem with being in Star Trek? You’d forever be remembered at the pointy eared Spock or the philanderer Kirk. For-ever!

Who knows what other roles Leonard Nimoy has played? See… only one comes to mind – Spock!

Though I must admit that young Spock looks absolutely delish. I’d watch the movie all over again for him Not the actor but for the bad haircut and pointy eared logical Vulcan. Kirk irritated the hell out of me, but then he did so as well in the TV series so that’s fine.

One more thing – how come they allowed Future Spock and Present Spock to meet? I thought that’s a big no-no because it causes problems with the time continuum and scientific mumbo jumbo like that. Still, it wasn’t picked up in the movie goofs so I reckon I’m mistaken.

So, watch this is you are a Star Trek fan but be prepared to suspend disbelief at what happens. I had to stop myself many times from going “But that’s not right!” because its a movie and they have creative license dammit!
