Twitter + Ads are a turn off!

by ParisB on June 22, 2010

Unlike websites, I find ads on Twitter incredibly annoying.

I liken ads on Twitter to having coffee with an insurance agent. You think you are catching up with an old friend from high school/college/university/ex-colleague and then they pull the insurance thing on you and try to get you to sign up an insurance plan with them and after 10 minutes of general chit chat, that’s all they talk about – selling you stuff. Instant turn off.

Its different if I follow a company’s Twitter profile. They are there to sell me stuff. Friend’s aren’t supposed to be putting commercial breaks at every opportunity!

I know I could easily set up lists but it doesn’t work that way on my phone and not on echofon which updates with everything.

And I don’t see why I should.

So its nothing personal – but if you turn into a bill board, I can’t help but hit the “unfollow” button.
