Why is Paul the Octopus so accurate in predictions?

by ParisB on July 8, 2010

Paul the Octopus scores again!

He predicted a Spanish victory in the Spain-Germany clash yesterday and yep! He was right. Spain march into the World Cup Finals with a 1-0 victory.

So, why is this octopus getting it right when predicting the outcome for the German team?

Because God has a sense of humour and He just knows that if this gift was given to Man, Man would just go out and make lots of money either by placing bets, being a bookie or selling e-books online about how to predict the outcome of football matches.

In an octopus, there is no such greed. Well, not unless you count the mussel treat he gets.

I love that.

hahah! my father said kinda the same thing. We came up with extremely ‘scientific’ reasons for his tukang tilik efficacy/omniscience.

Could it be conditioning from his handlers? The Octo can read bodylanguage/verbal cues? (do they hear?)

Could it be the clams given in each plastic container. One is ala octo-caviar and the other is ala cincaluk?

Could the Octo be a Timelord ala Dr Who, in this current Octo-ey incarnation? OK this one, was all me, since my dad’s got m=no clue aboot this scifi malarkey :-)

But now what if he gets the final match result wrong???
