Are you slowing down too?

I’ve been having lots of problems surfing around the internet lately including accessing my emails which are primarily through Gmail, and accessing my rss reader which is Google reader. When I log into my Gmail account, I keep getting that dreaded “loading” sign and in Firefox, a status bar that fills up halfway, then tells me its taking too long to load and I should switch to a html viewer.Granted, this takes care of the email element, but it also cuts me off from my gmail chat buddies.

I’ve also found that many sites out there are loading very slowly too. If they have lots of images it gets worse. I don’t think its Streamyx (although I’d love to blame anything on Streamyx!) so I’d like to know if anyone is having this problem too?

Are you having problems with the internet or is it just me?

Tell me I’m not living in a twilight zone please?

I’m so efficient I need a new camera

I’m so efficient that I ended up getting suspended again!

I also ended up screaming at the Streamyx technical people to connect my account back this morning when it was still off line. I know they told me 24 hours but its never taken more than half an hour before (I seem to be an old hand at this!) so I told them they really suck (in my exact words) and that they were so quick to suspend my account but when I make payment they are so slow to reconnect.

What d’ya know? 10 minutes later, I’m back online. Amazing how useful “persuasion” is :P

And so, this explains why I’ve been quiet on all blog fronts.

On another note, I’ve been thinking of getting a new point and shoot camera. There is only so much a phone camera can do and that is mostly in daylight. Come dim lighting and it really sucks. Not useful when I’m working on my food site - Pink Parisian (Have you visited or revisited HaveYouEaten.Net? :) You didn’t realise the site address has changed? Where have you been?! :P ) that needs me to take some decent pictures and not rely on the phone. I mean, a phone is after all, a phone first and camera second (or rather it should be) else I’d be able to make calls from a DSLR yes? :)

So, ideas ideas! I’m not in the league of the DLSRs. I just want a basic and simple point and shoot that takes decent pictures, especially close up pictures. Preferably costing about RM800 or so. I saw a few Panasonic Lumix cameras that fell into this price range, but I’ve never used a Lumix, only ever a Canon.

Cheap and good. Does it exist?

Learning something new everyday!

Following on from my fun with blogging yesterday, I’m happy to report that I did finally meet fellow blogger Pablopabla (who has professed secret ambitions of being a chef! And I have no doubt that he will be a good one too!) over a very Malaysian breakfast of roti canai and nescafe/milo.

The thing about meeting someone you have only ever joked with and communicated with online is that you build up this image in your head of how they are, how they look, how they should behave… and then you meet them in the flesh…

… and in this case, found that it was all true! :)

Pablo is truly pleasant, friendly and helpful and we spent a happy hour or so talking about blogging (a fount of information he is!!) and other more humdrum stuff. I’m eternally grateful for the fact that he did not once call me “Paris”! :D

Then, I got into work and found a very helpful email from LB whom I had contacted about some wordpress stuff. It was a case of “Elementary my dear Watson” and some time shifting, but something I’d never even thought about!

So blogging is fun and you do learn something new everyday!

On an unrelated note, it is 3.30pm and I’m suddenly craving for Sarawak Kolo Mee.

kolo mee

DAMN! DAMN! DAMN! :P

Blogging fun #1

I cannot thank Kimberly enough for introducing me to the screengrab add on for Firefox. It allowed me to grab this without my cracking my head about how to go about getting the whole page instead of just the visible area:-

Blogging fun #2

To make my blogging thrill complete, I’m finally going to meet fellow blogger Pablopabla tomorrow! Unfortunately, despite us being fellow foodies we’d probably be only meeting over teh tarik (or nescafe kau kau kurang manis in my case) and roti canai at breakfast. Still, its not the food but the company yes?

So, blogging is not all about politics and politicians turned bloggers have got the wrong end of the stick. Blogging should be fun fun fun! :)

Suspended and fed to the fishes at Kenko Fish Spa - Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

Ah! Here’s my explanation for the silence on the blog front:

Guess who got their Streamyx account suspended for not paying their phone bill? *sheepish grin* Amazing how quickly TM reacts when we don’t pay our bills but how slowly they react otherwise.

Anyway, I happened to be around Pavilion Shopping Centre last night and I remembered sis telling me about her experience at Kenko Fish Spa. Kenko Fish Spa, for the uninitiated, is a place where you can go and feed your dead skin cells to Garra Rufa fish or “doctor fish”. The experience is, in a word - unique. In 2 words, it is unique & ticklish!

Kenko Fish Spa (Its actually called Kenko Foot Reflexology and Fish Spa) is located at the Pavilion Shopping Centre on the 5th Floor. Head for the GSC Cinema and you’ll see it. Its not in the main building you see but sort of in an annexe.

It costs RM38 for a 30 minute session. First of all, wash your feet thoroughly. No lotions, no medications, no open wounds allowed. You don’t want to kill the fishies! Then, head for the pool area. There are 2 pools, the outer ring with larger fishes and the inner ring with smaller fishes in warm water.

I started with the inner ring and OMG! Did you see the feeding frenzy up there?! Yep! That’s my feet (actually there are 2 sets of feet) and those are the garra rufa fish going nuts nibbling away at the dead skin on my feet. I did not even know I had that much dead skin!! The sensation is ticklish and quite geli but you get used to it after a while. Its not painful, but you definitely feel the fish pecking away at your skin.

After a spell, I headed over to where the larger fish were. Maybe they were full - fed by so many people, but my feet “tak laku” lah… so I headed back to the smaller tank purely for ego purposes you understand. How can my feet be so unpopular?! :P

After 30 minutes of feeding the fishes, ta-da! Feet as smooth as a baby’s bottom! You can’t put your fingers in the water - pity because I’d have liked to have smooth hands too. The people at the counter said there is a new treatment for the whole body. Your whole body fed to the fishes? *shudder* And yet… I’m intrigued…

The fish spa is supposed to be good for those with skin problems like eczema and psoriasis. Apparently, it helps the skin condition because the fish clear away the dead skin and allow new skin to grow. Its not cheap but its definitely worth the experience so I’ll be back to feed more fish. And that whole body thing is really calling out to me…

Have a good weekend, all!
