April 29th, 2008 — Blogging, Fun & Amusements
This might be old news to some but RTM1 (National TV station = propaganda channel) runs a 15 minute segment on bloggers on Sundays at about 8.40pm or so. You’d never catch me watching RTM1 at any time. I even forbid anyone in the house from switching over to it because I don’t want to be recorded as a statistic. Yes, I detest it that much.
I made an exception for RPK last Sunday but immediately after the segment was over, I switched the channel
But I digress.
I was going to put up the links to the RPK segment which was on last Sunday, for those who missed it. Its in Malay but absolutely hilarious (to me) watching the interviewer fall far out of his depth and failing to control the tide of the interview.
Here is the Youtube video in 3 parts
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
But no, this isn’t some political government RTM-bashing post despite how it looks.
I was in fact thinking of what the Information Minister said:-
On the selection of bloggers to be interviewed, he said this would be determined by the RTM selection panel from time to time, depending on the issue to be discussed.
“We look at the issue, not the personality. Besides the well-known bloggers, we will also feature new ones. We leave it to RTM, this is not for the ministry to decide.”
When you watch the Youtube videos, take a look at the blog names on the backdrop. Notice that they are all political or politically inclined blogs. Based on that and on the choice of bloggers thus far, I’d say they are going for so-po bloggers (social-political) and you my dear friends, and I surely do not fall into that category or you won’t be reading my fluff yes?!
So, unless RTM’s selection panel decide that the issue of the day is “What masacara comes recommended?” or “Where do I get good Char Kuey Teow?” I don’t expect to see beauty bloggers or food bloggers anywhere on their list… LOL…
But can you imagine the flak you’d get for dissing a popular mascara? What if the company decides to sue you for falling sales? What if you get death threats because some psycho fan of the mascara has been using it for the past 20 years with excellent results? What if you have to keep upgrading your bandwidth to keep up with visitors?!
Actually, I’m not too fussed about the latter.
LOL… the mind boggles.

Blogging fun #1
I cannot thank Kimberly enough for introducing me to the screengrab add on for Firefox. It allowed me to grab this without my cracking my head about how to go about getting the whole page instead of just the visible area:-

Blogging fun #2
To make my blogging thrill complete, I’m finally going to meet fellow blogger Pablopabla tomorrow! Unfortunately, despite us being fellow foodies we’d probably be only meeting over teh tarik (or nescafe kau kau kurang manis in my case) and roti canai at breakfast. Still, its not the food but the company yes?
So, blogging is not all about politics and politicians turned bloggers have got the wrong end of the stick. Blogging should be fun fun fun!

April 2nd, 2008 — Blogging, Ramblings
The latest blogger to catch the attention of the blogosphere is one Dr. Mohamad Khir Toyo - ex Chief Minister of Selangor, ex dentist, ex broom distributor. I was living in Selangor during his time in the sun and I had many “affectionate” names for him, the most popular of course being a twist in his last name. But then everyone calls him that don’t they?

I wonder why Khir Toyo opted for Blogger for his new blog. I mean, I’d have expected him to get his own hosting and use Wordpress, if he was serious about blogging that is. Blogger is quite notoriously unstable at times and nothing beats having your own host. I’m not linking you to Khir Toyo’s blog. You can see the address in the picture above or go to drkhir dot blogspot dot com. Maybe we will see pictures of mansions in it some day.
So now we have Jeff Ooi - Blogger turned Politician and Khir Toyo - politician turned blogger. How the wheel turns eh? Let us see how long it takes Zainuddin Maidin (ex Information Minister) to set up a blog. Ah, but that would go against his stereotype of bloggers right? During his time as Information Minister, he called bloggers “goblok” (stupid) and wanted bloggers to register and then changed his mind and asked for them to be classified instead. Is it any wonder he’s now unemployed? I’d like to see zainuddinmaidin.blogspot.com - anyone indulge me? Its still available … *snigger*
On a lighter note, let me showcase my 2 favourite politician turned blogger blogs - The Tun Blogs and PLSB (Courtesy of TV Smith Dua Sen. Read these at the office at your own peril. I am not responsible for your colleagues giving you strange looks as you try to contain your laughter.)
Did I say Khairy blogs? No, he doesn’t. Not yet anyway - he’s laying low until the furore blows over (if it ever will). April Fool!
However, he’s appropriated the name of a town (Rembau) for his own personal site! Can ah like that?

I owe the Giddy Tiger a million and one tags. My tag debt is so high it rivals the debt a corrupt government of a developing country can rack up by spending unnecessary money on inconsequentials. But hey! Lets not dwell on the Port Klang RM4.6 BILLION debt eh?
Lets instead talk about the tag Giddy Tiger gifted me with some time last year. LAST YEAR! I’m as bad with keeping promises as an elected member of parliament!

Aren’t these the most adorable name cards ever?
I received them this morning from Foodbuzz an online food and restaurant review resource online, which I have signed up with. Together with my personalized name cards came the signed agreement which I had faxed to them earlier. Yes, you need to sign an agreement and all - very formal, very serious stuff.
But coming back to the name cards. I absolutely loved them! They are mini cards from Moo Cards and after I went to check out the site, I wanted to make even more cards! Sigh… That’s the trick to sending out freebies isn’t it?
Anyway, I would love to hand out my beautiful foodie namecards but here’s the snag - they used my real name on them! Boohoo…. that explains the smudge you see in the picture. Sigh… Still, they’ll make pretty book marks… or I might glue them back to back and give them out as bookmarks.
Anyone want one?
