Come see the irony of MAS free air tickets!

Here’s a screen capture of a news article taken from The Star online about MAS offering free air tickets within Malaysia.

Lets not get me started on why I don’t think MAS should descend to the level of a budget carrier like Air Asia and just buck up and start acting like a proper commercial airline. Free tickets are gimmicks budget airlines use but not everyone likes rushing for unassigned seats and hanging out in a low cost terminal which is essentially a large hangar. And that whole everyone can fly thing can really get to you when you are lining up like school kids waiting to be let through the gate so you can sprint the 100m to your plane and then “chup” all the seats for your friends. Bah!

So, don’t get me started :P Just look at the screen capture and tell me if The Star doesn’t love a little irony as much as I do?!

Did you catch it the first time?! :P

Why you should not display the prosperity cat…

Whilst browsing the city for bright red and gold gaudy Chinese New Year decorations, I realised that I was seeing many decorations featuring the Maneki Neko or Prosperity Cat. You know that little Japanese cat that waves at you as you enter a shop? The idea behind displaying the Prosperity Cat is to bring in prosperity. The cat is waving in good luck and business into your store/office.

During the Chinese New Year, it is not uncommon to find this cat featured on decorations or sold as decorative pieces whether with a waving arm or static raised arm.

But, why shouldn’t you display the prosperity cat (Maneki Neko) this coming Lunar New Year?

Because its the Lunar Year of the RAT!!!

why no neko

Which self-respecting rat will enter a premises once it sees a CAT waving at it from the front door?!?!

Add to that the fact that the cat is not even one of the signs of the Chinese Zodiac because it failed to make it to Buddha’s side after being conned by the rat. That is one of the fables behind why the cat always chases the rat - it is pissed off till today at its missed opportunity and so tries to take its revenge when it can.

So, will you be displaying the Prosperity Cat this year? Me? I’m taking no chances and am hiding all signs of cats, prosperity bringing or no - I want the rat to bring in my gold nuggets, not run away! :)

Its Chinese New Year when…

Pussy Willows make an appearance… and

Curly Lucky Bamboo get snapped up by the dozens.

This year, I’m not quite sure what possessed me to primp up the house in time for the coming Chinese New Year. I don’t usually go for the oriental look but I decided to make the effort anyway with more kitch to come! And in line with ridding the house of the previous year’s bad chi I’ve been scrubbing and cleaning and clearing for weeks now, and am finally on the home stretch. *whew* I’ve thrown out a lot of rubbish and de-cluttered many parts of the house - true to all feng shui principles. :)

I got all of the above at my newest hangout/obsession - Ikea! I did a little survey and found that Ikea’s prices of RM16 for a bunch of 12 pussy willow stalks was reasonable. In the city at flower wholesalers, they are going for RM20 for 10 stalks and they did not look any fresher nor prettier. The curly bamboo (which brings to my mind dragons) were RM1.90 a stalk.

And since I was at Ikea, I finally succumbed to what I affectionately refer to as a “dead animal” LOL…

sheepskin

Its a shaggy sheepskin rug for my bedroom, to greet my toesies in the morning when I get out of bed. Ah… bliss… though I don’t think India likes it very much :)

Introducing India, my photo-reality alter ego who might be making an appearance from time to time. She is narcissistic and sarcastic… erm… pretty much like me. :)

My site was down the last day and a half due to a glitch at a data center in the USA. I think it was a power failure. Left me with a lot of time on my hands, I can tell you! But I’m glad my host kept my informed and updated all the way so there was less worry on my end.

If my sites go wonky over the weekend, don’t panic. There is some server migration going on. Till then, here’s wishing everyone a happy weekend! :)
