Water Water Everywhere!

I was out for a meeting yesterday evening in the Wisma UOA II area of Kuala Lumpur. Anyone who knows the area will know that there are 2 open space car parks serving the buildings where office workers and visitors alike park their cars.

There was a torrential downpour yesterday as it happens in KL these days and this was the sight that greeted my eyes as I parked my car up on a slope.

The neighbouring car park was flooded! The water was rising and all the cars parked there were slowly and surely getting wet. I’ve had water enter my previous car before. It smells like wet dog for months afterwards and you never really ever get rid of the smell. That is, if you can even drive it after all the water has flooded the engine.

Like everyone else, I stood under my umbrella-ella-ella (!) and gawked and being a blogger, quickly whipped out my trusty phone camera (Oh! My camera phone! What shall I do without thee?!) and snapped a couple of pictures. Thankfully, I have a colleague who is fast cottoning on to the fact that any strange or not so strange event has me merrily snapping away so I was not rushed :)

Here is a before and after picture of the same car park at almost the same angle 2 hours later:-

The water subsided quickly and the rain had stopped 2 hours later. But the mess was not over for I saw many people staring at their cars in horror. I don’t know how many of them managed to get their cars drivable to go home that night. That red Satria was badly hit because it is so low. I’m sure the water was all the way in the car already and the electrics must have short circuited for the alarm was blaring away with lights flashing. The owner was also nowhere to be seen. Maybe he was still unaware of what happened.

I dread to think of the hassle with insurance and repair costs that will follow.

On another car related note, look at what I was tailing this morning on the way to work:-

Excuse me? How does one see out of the rear windscreen with that flower arrangement right in the middle of it all? Elaborate flower arrangements belong on a table or sideboard or at the very least, in a HOUSE!!

A car, no matter how comfy and how much it costs, is not a house. Isn’t there a law against blocking the view from your rear windscreen or something?

Lucky Bamboo? Or maybe not?

Before Chinese New Year, I bought me some “lucky bamboo” and Wuching accused India, my pet tiger, of humping the vase. Well yeah she looked like she was doing it but still… Anyway, I had 6 stalks of healthy curly wurly green lucky bamboo soaking up all the water they could drink in their vase of water crystal things.

Over the last 2 weeks, I noticed something odd happening to 2 of them. One stalk was yellowing from the bottom upwards and another was yellowing from the top down. I have no idea how or why it happened this way, but it did. I was then reminded of Giddy Tiger’s prosperity plant that was pining away for something. If its you and me GT, its something in the October air - I reckon it might be because October is the start of fall/autumn? ;)

Anyway, so today, I decided I’d had enough of looking at sickly bamboo plants and decided to wrap them up to be tossed. See how odd they look?

Only after I’d laid out the newspaper and taken the picture did I notice how apt the picture on the paper was. It was an ad for some home loan but the little boy looks like he’s flabbergasted at the state of my lucky bamboo plants!

Or maybe they weren’t so lucky eh?

Do you have an irrational fear?

Do you?

I do.

I cannot bear to see books placed upside down on shelves.

This irrational “fear” stems from a story I read as a wee kid. I cannot remember the title of the story now, but it was a boy who would not keep his books properly on the shelf and would stack them upside down or any old way. One night, he woke up to find that the words were falling out of one of his books that was placed upside down!

He of course embarked on an adventure to return all the words that had fallen out into the empty pages of the book. I don’t quite know why that story made such an impact on me, but it did.

Until today, I cannot stand to see books placed upside down on a shelf or anywhere and will always turn them upright anywhere I go. I’m afraid that I’d pick up the book and find the pages empty, with all the words piled on the shelf in a messy pile.

I was reminded of this as I was packing up some documents into a bag. My colleague was helping me stuff the documents in and they went in head first. I was quick to stop him and to turn them around before placing them into the bag bottom first. Story or not, I did not want to end up with a bag full of empty paper and random words!

What’s your irrational “fear”?

Yours fluffily

Blasts from the Twilight Zone

Can you blame me for doing a double take when I entered the ladies washroom at The Gardens?

Does it look suspiciously like a row of urinals to you? I trust I’d be forgiven in thinking that they had finally designed a way for women to pee standing - it’ll save a lot of time queuing in the ladies toilets as any woman can tell you. Which leads me to the question - Why are there always the same number of cubicles in a men’s toilet as in the ladies? Men have the added advantage of having urinals as well so it is no wonder their turn around time is so much faster. Or rather it should be - there are always exceptions :P

But toilet rants aside, no, I did not wander into the men’s toilets by mistake. It was actually a row of sinks conveniently located at… erm… waist height. erm… Definitely worth a look hehe…

And now, onto the entertainment news! Look who’s reuniting?

*giggles* I cannot believe that the New Kids on the Block (aka NKOTB) are actually reuniting!! New Album! World Tour! Have they run out of money? Already?

I wonder if they are sticking to NKOTB. Ironically, the AP news report referred to them as The New Kids On The Block not NKOTB. But… :-

  1. They aren’t kids anymore
  2. They aren’t “new kids” they are “old news”
  3. Their block has upgraded to some swanky neighbourhood now

I’ll be watching this with great amusement. And look at their latest photo! Jonathan Knight still has his cheesey grin, Jordan Knight still has his “I’m too sexy for you” look, Joey McIntyre is all “growed up”, Donnie Wahlberg still has his pseudo tough guy image (even in a suit) and Danny Wood is erm… yes still the rather strange one!

OMG! *runs away screaming at the memories*

Enjoy your weekend. I’m off to see what’s brewing in our Southern neighbour. :)

Hello Kitty, Malaysia gets a new cabinet!

Lame silly title :P

First off. We have a new cabinet - do we wave flags and shout hurrah?

Go read the official list of ministers and deputy ministers in the new 2008 Malaysian cabinet. Faces noticably missing are: Rafidah Aziz (surprise!), Ong Ka Ting (brothers don’t count) and Samy Vellu (but of course!). Sons in law too have gone undercover and the post of parliamentary secretaries are scrapped. Not enough BN MPs to populate the cabinet maybe? hehe…

Faces that appeared out of the blue are: Zaid Ibrahim and Muhammad Taib, both of whom did not even stand in the past elections. I think its fitting that Muhammad Taib is Rural and Regional Development Minister. After all, he embarrassingly failed an English test in Australia didn’t he? *snigger*

So that’s the new cabinet.

And here’s the reason for the wide smile on my face this morning when I got into work.

A Hello Kitty Mobile! How perfect if it was pink!

My favourite Hello Kitty accessory for this car however, is the bit I highlighted in yellow and enlarged - a Hello Kitty exhaust pipe! All together now - “Aiyo! So cute!

What a cheery start to the morning. I was actually thankful for the jam so I could snap this picture! hehe…
