Handy work

Yet another whirlwind weekend has passed by in a blur. Honestly, I sometimes look forward to week days simply because its the only time I have to myself, to blog, to take pictures to blog, to watch tv, to do laundry, to clean house… to do everything I should be doing on a weekend! My weekends always pass by in a blur of activity which usually involves ferrying someone from one point to another or running around getting all sorts of things. Juggling 3-4 different projects isn’t fun!

Actually it is. I enjoy it :P

This weekend was no different. I spent the better part of Saturday at the Bloggers Tea Party organised by Rinnah and it was great fun meeting her and SengKor, Winn, Angeles, Beetrice and some other bloggers who I didn’t catch their names (sorry!) who made it to the party.

The rest of the weekend, I spent on a DIY mission. This is part 1 of about 100 of my DIY things to do around the house. A while ago, I bought a pair of bookshelves from Ikea. My mom insisted that I buy the doors to go with it, because it would get dusty otherwise. But, I being rather short in the money department, refused.

I ‘m glad I did. This weekend, I popped by Ikea and on a whim, went to check out the As Is department - where all rejects and ex-display units go. Behold!

I got my bookshelf doors at a total of RM84 off! Glass doors that matched my bookcase perfectly and they came fully installed with the hinges and handles so all I had to do was to screw it into the bookcase and voila! New doors! Now, I need to look for another pair for the other book case.

And while I was there, I also picked up a glass fronted door for another bookcase I transformed into my storage cabinet in my bedroom. It was  marked down to RM84 from RM120 or something ridiculous. It was still unassembled and in the original packaging. The sole “defect” was a little scratch running down the back of the board (which you can’t see from the outside in any event!).

Needless to say, I spent a happy 2 hours setting up my doors. I also bought something interesting which I’m using to remove the clutter from my dressing table, but I forgot to take pictures of those. Maybe next time.

My next DIY project : Painting my room walls. I shudder at the thought.

What did you do this weekend?

The early bird…

… gets to spend lots of money!

I stole this picture of the FJ Benjamin sale from Beetrice - sorry ah… too lazy and tired to find my own :P Its called the “Great FJ Benjamin Branded Sale” but to us Malaysians, its “Yay! Its that La Senza/Guess warehouse sale!” and this year they even had Banana Republic and Gap in on the game.

I don’t know why they said it started on May 1 in the flyer - it only started today. I should know, I was there and everyone seemed clueless and the clothes etc were too orderly, not messed up. Even the La Senza bras were all lined up nicely according to size and bra cups! Anyone who’s been for a warehouse sale the day after opening day will know that you just find piles of clothes of mixed up sizes and brands and prices. Nothing is as orderly as it is on the first day.

So, what was I doing there? I was there for my annual replenishment of my affordable La Senza lingerie and pyjama wardrobe. Woohoo! PJs, sexy and not so sexy lingerie - they all have to last me at least a year :P

I was also hoping against hope to snag me a Banana Republic bag at a discount but all they had were bags from Guess and super over-priced bags from Raoul. Don’t get me started down that road! I have lots to say about them but some people might think me over critical of their taste :P

Anyway… what did I have to show at the end of it all? Other than comfy PJs and “unmentionables”, 1 Banana Republic wrap dress in black. Servicable, classic and marked down to RM200 from RM649.

Something like the one in the picture but with 3/4 sleeves and in black. I’ve been looking for a wrap dress for ever!

Edit: I found a picture of the dress I got! Picture it in black. Now, I NEED a pair of killer calf length boots! NEED!

Worth the early morning crush and the hangover feeling I’m having the whole day from lack of sleep?

Let me sleep on it and get back to you :)

Am I posting in the wrong blog about this? Ahh… I’m sure you enjoy reading about my crazy shopping exploits too right?! :P And I’m attempting to bake a cake this weekend. Me? Bake? A cake?! Friend assures me its a fool proof recipe. I hope it truly is because I’m a baking fool! :P

Happy weekend everyone!

Yours fluffily

Things brothers say

I was out at the evil place called Isetan (the irony of the name!) while waiting for various people in the family to have their hair cut, and my eye was caught by a pair of darling quilted flats. I have a problem buying flats because I’m short and its hard to find a pair of flats that don’t make me look even shorter. Again, thats an ironic statement.

But anyhows, I find a cute comfy quilted leather pair with patent shiny toes and a darling little bow, that doesn’t make me look short. The black was very nice but did not have my size. So, I opted for a bright red pair which goes exceedingly well with jeans (and a matching red bag perhaps?) Best of all, a 50% discount sweetened the deal further.

(brighter in real life)

And then my brother comes over, watches as I pay for the shoes and says “So, you got your Dorothy slippers then?”

Sigh…

Cheep cheap…. its Easter…

Another lame title but I was up till 4am last night - four ay am!! Pukul Empat Pagi!!

And no, I wasn’t out clubbing or having fun, I was WORKING goshdarnit! And I was hungry! At four ay am! We were actually thinking of hitting up a 24 hour McDonalds just to satisfy my curiousity.

Who goes to McDonalds at 4am?” I have often asked. I was about to get my answer but there was no McDs near my place. Boo!

Anyway, mushy brains aside, I went for some unexpected shopping yesterday and picked me up a wonderful deal - 2 pairs of shoes for less than RM230 at Marks and Spencer!

Its the Marks & Spencer sale on at the moment and I know that M&S aren’t exactly shoemakers of the year, but I could not resist the cute peep toes in a metallic taupe leather for RM150. They were adorable and fit like a charm. Besides there was only one there in my size - Size 4! Woot!

And as providence would have it, there was only 1 pair of suede ankle boots to fit my size 4 feet too!! They were originally priced for RM349 and were discounted to RM139. I thought it was a best buy item because of the different colored sticker but when I went to pay for them, I got 50% off! Suede ankle boots for under RM70?! Where to find?!

I’ve never owned a pair of ankle boots - I never could see the point but they look awesome with pants/jeans and who can resist that cute little bow at the back eh?

I just read on Eye For Everything that my favourite writer Terry Pratchett has Alzheimers Disease. No!! He’s so witty and funny!! Now I’m even more determined to make sure I have the whole collection of Pratchett’s books!

For a sample of his humor go read his letter to the Alzheimer’s Trust. It had me giggling even though I was feeling upset. And in an effort to Match it For Pratchett you can buy a T-shirt to help donate towards Alzheimer’s research. Its got a picture of the Discworld on it so what’s there not to like? What is the Discworld? Erm… time to pick up a Pratchett novel and lose yourself in it!

Finally, its Good Friday! And that means Sunday is Easter Sunday! And that means Hot Cross Buns, Chocolate Eggs and Chocolate Easter Bunnies!

I’m sorry, I’m pagan :P

To all celebrating the rebirth of Christ, I wish you a Blessed Easter; and to all celebrating with chocolate eggs, bunnies and hot cross buns, I wish you Happy Easter too!

Eat ‘em and Book ‘em!

I had marked Feb 27th on my calendar ever since I received the mailer telling me there was an MPH sale with extra discounts for members on Feb 27-29; which means 20% off all books! There were a bunch of books I felt I HAD to get because my collection isn’t complete without them; and because try as I might, I cannot find them at any of the book warehouse sales. So, pricey or no, I was going to get them.

When 5.30pm finally came around, I hurriedly said my goodbyes to my sis (on GMail) and Beetrice (on MSN) - don’t you love IM-ing at work? - and went to hit the bookstore. But not before popping by to try Carl’s Jr. for dinner.

A food review will follow if ever I get around to editing the photos. Suffice now to say that everything in this burger joint is large (don’t go Rinnah if you are still on a diet ;) ).

The burgers are so huge the filling is practically falling out of the bun; the Medium combo set is equivalent to a large set at other fastfood restaurants - huge fries and a huge drink; and if you are wondering, yes, even the prices are huge. A burger costs anywhere from RM15 to RM18. ONE BURGER! And combo sets (burger, fries and drink) cost from RM20 upwards. They are tasty and super filling, but the wallet hurt like crazy after the meal.

Actually, the wallet didn’t hurt so much as when I whipped out my plastic to pay for this eclectic haul of books:

books

A Jamie Oliver cookbook - Cook with Jamie; Bill Bryson - The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid; and 4 Terry Pratchett books to partially complete my collection.

I am a great fan of Terry Pratchett and am on a mission to collect every one of the Discworld novels. I’ve actually met the man while he was on a book tour in Australia and have a signed copy addressed to moi! *giggle giggle preen preen*

books2

Anyway, there are something like 26 books so far and I have most of them except some earlier ones and some that have gone on a walkabout and forgotten to come back. Thing is, I’m really picky as I like the older colourful cartoon covers as opposed to the new publisher’s boring plain covers, so I don’t buy titles by the new publisher unless I can’t help it. There are a couple more to go before my collection is complete but MPH in Midvalley did not have them - maybe at the next sale then?

Ooh new books! What fun!!
