Haha… no its not as gross a topic as the title of this post implies. I’m just responding to the Giddy Tigress’ tag on bookworms.
Do you remember how you developed a love for reading?
No but I’ve loved reading ever since I could read as a wee babe. My mom is still proud of the fact that I could read and recognize letters way before I could walk. LOL… Reading has given me a tremendously fertile imagination - over imaginative sometimes, if you ask me, but the worlds and wonders its opened up for me are boundless.
What are some books you read as a child?
Anything by Enid Blyton! Who else? I was born pre-Harry Potter and I’m glad I was because I think Harry Potter isn’t the be all and end all for kid stories (but that’s another story) If I have kids, I’ll continue to bring them up on a diet of Enid Blyton’s books be they nursery stories involving dresden dolls and golliwogs, fairy stories like the Faraway Tree and the Wishing Chair, stories about magic and the impossible, school stories like The Naughtiest Girl at School, Malory Towers, St. Clares, adventure stories like The Secret Seven and the Famous Five… is there any genre that Enid Blyton did not cover?
I also happily devoured the Arabian Nights, classics like Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer, encyclopedias, dictionaries (!!!) and anything in print I could get my hands on. I got into trouble many a time for reading story books when I should be studying (both at school and at home) but can you blame me when story books are so much more interesting than dry history and geography?! “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.”
~ Romeo & Juliet - Shakespeare ~
I don’t normally do these name things, but I picked this one off Giddy Tigress and giggled over it for a bit.

The Giddy Tigeress gifted me with the gift of FIVE wrapped up in Tiffany Blue and wrapped in signature Tiffany bow style!
Doesn’t it look pretty? Actually the Tiffany thing is another story which I’ll regale you with another day.
Anyway, I was gifted with five questions I must answer on a Friday after I receive this gift. So what d’ya know? Its a Friday today (albeit late in the evening but still Friday!) and here are my 5 answers.
1. To watch or participate?
In what?
Sometimes I watch, sometimes I participate. Mostly, I watch THEN participate once I know the rules of course. Call it pride but I hate making a fool of myself.
2. Malls, catalog shopping, or the Internet?
I can’t answer this one with just one. C’est non possible! I mean, here I am, writing beauty reviews and shopping deals so just being limited to one is like taking me to a buffet and telling me I can only have the salad leaves! But if I truly can only have one, I’d say malls. I like seeing things in person and testing them out in real life. Catalog shopping intrigues me, but I’ve never bought anything from a catalog (unless you could online catalogs). Internet shopping is awesome because I get to buy stuff I can only dream about otherwise, which I restrict to non clothes and shoes. But for practical purposes, I’d still have to say the mall - that way I know it fits!
3. A bath or shower?
Shower. I like the feel of the water and besides, having a shower uses 1/5 of the water needed to run a bath so that makes me environmentally friendly right?! However, nothing beats a warm bubble bath scented with aromatherapy oils and flower petals for a relaxing soak guaranteed to ease away the strains of the day. Ahh…. I wish I had a bath… I need to relax!
4. To talk to people by telephone, in person or by e-mail?
This depends on the level of comfort I feel with a person. I like email for the edit factor, but I’ve found that its impractical and not usually the best form of communication with people because nuances are lost and you have to depend on emoticons
etc to get your message across correctly. At least over the phone or in real life you can gauge a person’s response and reactions.
5. Typing or writing?
I’m faster at typing for everyday but I still like hand writing messages or cards. In this generic impersonal world, the personal touch is still best.
Gosh! Looking at those answers, I never did give just one answer did I?
And with this, I tag thee:-
I’ll be watching out for your answers next Friday y’all!
Its the long weekend, with Wesak Day on Monday. I’ll be catching up on sleep and house chores and the dreaded ironing. I have to. I have no more clothes left for work!
Hope you have a weekend that’s more fun than mine!

I know I have fans. I must have. That feedburner count doesn’t get that high if no one’s reading my daily… ok ok… not-so-daily fluff right?
Anyway, Wuching wanted to know about my fans.
By Wuching’s definition of fans, I have only 2 that span the ages of technology and nostalgia.
The Modern - wireless, remotely controlled gizmo wonder

Panasonic ceiling fan with remote control speeds. Cools a treat on hot days but is usually off because I get some strong winds up in my castle in the sky.
The Old - nostalgic, yesteryear still going strong.

Hands up who remembers this KDK table top fan from their childhood? You don’t see these around much anymore. This says its the deluxe model! I suppose its because it comes in 3 speeds.
I grew up with this fan that used to belong to my late grandma. As a kid, she would scream at us if we went too near it while it was on, lest we stick our fingers between the wire screen and have them lobbed off by the fan blades. Many years later, it was wrapped up and kept in the store room until some time last year when I asked my mom if there was a spare fan around the place. You see, I’m too stingy (and inefficient) to get an air conditioner fixed up in my “study” so I figured a table fan would do in the interim.
It does work, and it serves its purpose. And I get some pleasure and a big dose of nostalgia using it because the whirring it makes as it turns reminds me of the nights as a kid when I’d creep into my late gran’s room to sleep. I had a room of my own but I went through a phase when I couldn’t sleep unless it was in my gran’s room. So, yeah, this fan reminds me of those days.
Perhaps it should look a bit more like this:-

And those are the only 2 fans I have in my house.
Over to you to tell me about your fans:-
Yours fluffily

Hands up how many people sang the title in your heads (or out loud)
Bit early for Christmas carols to come a wassailing again eh? But Rinnah tagged me and I’m on a slow post day. I mean I could write some nasty things about eating cili padi and getting your tongue burnt; and some irritating people who tell you one thing and get you all hyped up then realise belatedly that they can’t go through with it… but no. Thou shalt not. So here we are, fluffy as a bunny we are. Hoppity-hop! Happy Happy Joy Joy!

Name 1 thing you do everyday:
I take a long hot shower to wash off the grime of the day - physically and mentally.
Name 2 things you wish you could learn:
Belly dance and French. Paris might be the name, but je ne parlez Francois! and I have 2 left feet. Arguably all you really need is the belly no?
Name 3 things that remind you of your childhood:
- “Money pia” - what my late grandma would call Marie Biscuits that you get by weight from the local sundry shop
- Playing “catching” or what in staid English would be “It” - not half as much fun as saying “Eh! Want to play catching or not?”
- The cries of “Roti! Roti” in the evening by the roti man (bread seller who comes around in a tricycle cart dinging his little bell).
Name 4 things you love to eat but rarely do:
- Keropok - crackers
- Kerepek - um… crackers
- Asam Fish - too far from good ones
- Nasi Briyani Gam - hard to find good ones and fattening!
Name 5 things that make you feel good:
- A nice hot shower after a long tiring day
- Being able to hold a yoga pose without falling over
- Compliments
- A Haircut
- Getting an item I really want at an excellent price during a sale
And now, its over to a new friend to tell us in her expat wife way, 5 things about her! Over to you!
